In order to get to my bedroom from my kitchen, I must exit to the left or right of my sink.
Exiting left takes me through my bathroom while going to the right means traveling through the laundry room. This would be a simple task for most people, but as a person with only a sliver of light perception to guide me, it’s not so simple.
Veering is my special talent. Without light, I veer farther away from my desired destination. With light, I’m able to know where I’m going…if I’m paying close enough attention. So, how does light guide me from the kitchen’s center to my bedroom ultimately? First, I must seek the light, and differentiate them by location, shape, brightness, and other clues.
A larger, undefined spray of light indicates the light is probably pouring through my exterior door. No light leads me to believe I’m more than likely staring at my countertop. To find my sink, I raise my eyes slightly, above an imaginary horizon, and search for a shining light. I must look higher and to my left in order to spot a small, concentrated glow, belonging to my bathroom. My laundry room light is invisible. That is, until I locate the shining light above the sink, then trail the short counter to the right. Shortly, an unidentifiable brightness appears in my small sliver of sight. Voila! Now I can turn to leave.
The Guiding Light
As I meditated on how I navigate in parts of my house, my mind wanders to another guiding light, the star of Bethlehem. This star marked where Jesus Christ lies. It remained in the sky to guide wise men from afar to bring gifts to baby Jesus, who would grow up not only to be the King of Kings but Light of the World. Yes, this guiding light led us to THE LIGHT.
Once we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we are to reflect His light. You see, the reason I describe the light above my kitchen sink as shining is it reflects my ceiling fan lights in the mirror hanging directly above. We are not of the world and we are to reflect Jesus.
You are guiding others every day. The question is, are you guiding them with your worldly lights or with the reflection of God’s precious gift He sent for our salvation?
Be the light the spiritually blind need to see, and follow, to get around while present on this earth.
Have a blessed Christmas this year as you celebrate the Light of the World!
